The Star Seekers. When Matter Tends Towards Light – an exhibition by Angela Filippini

The first event of the autumn, organised by the Amici dei Musei Riccione e Valconca association – one of the cornerstones of the town’s cultural scene – brings the paintings and multi-material explorations of artist Angela Filippini to the rooms of Villa Franceschi.
From 10 September to 10 October, the exhibition “I cercatori di stelle. Quando la materia tende alla luce” presents a selection of 25 works on canvas, amongst which the large triptych of the same name stands out as the true visual and conceptual centrepiece of the entire exhibition.
Through these works, the artist explores an intense meditation on the relationship between matter, memory and transformation. Drawing on the traditions of contemporary Informal art and textural painting, Angela Filippini also draws upon her many years’ experience in the fashion industry to manipulate the surface using fabrics, threads and pigments, which are recomposed and assembled through structured processes of cutting, sewing, layering and abrasion.
The material thus ceases to be a mere medium for representation, becoming an expressive and symbolic element that redefines space and captures light.
The exhibition opens on Thursday 10 September at 6 pm and will be open, free of charge, from Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 1 pm, and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm.
